Il  progetto  Shamal – Sand Stone Stars firmato dall’artista Lisa Mara Batacchi per la scuola fiorentina Polimoda è un’installazione tessile che invita il pubblico “a imbarcarsi in un antico viaggio nel futuro, viaggiando alla velocità della luce e al tempo stesso osservando tutti quei dettagli che la sabbia nasconde, rivela e poi di nuovo, all’improvviso, cela”. La tessitura racconta una storia: quella delle tradizioni ancestrali delle minoranze che vivono in alcune aree montuose della Cina e dell’India, quella delle anziane tessitrici che hanno scelto le sue mani per tramandare tecniche altrimenti destinate a scomparire con la loro artrosi. La tessitrice Laura Biagini ha collaborato alla realizzazione del progetto.

The Shamal – Sand Stone Stars project, created by artist Lisa Mara Batacchi for the Florentine school Polimoda, is a textile installation that invites the public “to embark on an ancient journey into the future, traveling at the speed of light while simultaneously observing all the details that the sand hides, reveals, and then suddenly conceals again.” Weaving tells a story: that of the ancestral traditions of the minorities living in certain mountainous areas of China and India, and that of the elderly weavers who have chosen its hands to pass on techniques that would otherwise disappear with their arthritis.
